With the development of health facilities in the world, the elderly population is constantly increasing. chronic diseases are also increasing along with the increase in the elderly population. One of these chronic diseases is “dementia”.
The reasons for dementia are, depending on their age; memory loss, lack of reasoning, lack of attention and concentration, impairment in physical coordination, and significant impairment in cerebral functions.
Various psychiatric problems are observed in dementia patients. These are;
Physically impaired behavior (hitting, kicking, biting)
Abnormal behavior (disappearance, improper movement)
Verbal abnormal expressions (repeating desires, mentioning the same things, swearing)
Different behaviors can be observed other than the ones mentioned above.
Demented patient care differs from elderly patients with other chronic diseases. Care is extremely difficult because the patient is not physically very different from normal individuals. It is necessary for the patient to take his medications on time and regularly, to eat his meal on time, to maintain sleeping pattern and to meet all his needs.
